Some houses are capable of impressing us with their different characteristics. But these, which we have selected for you, call attention to the fact that they are quite strange.
1 – Cube Houses, Rotterdam, Netherlands
This set of innovative houses was built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands and designed by architect Piet Blom. The starting point was the inclination of a conventional house at 45 degrees, which was supported on a hexagonal base.
2- House shaped like a toilet – Suwon, South Korea
This bathroom-shaped house is called Haewoojae, which means “a sanctuary where one can settle their worries”. It was designed by the chairman of the organizing committee for the Inaugural General Assembly of the World Toilet Association, who hopes to draw attention to the world’s sanitation problems.
3- The Wales Hobbit House – UK
The Wales Hobbit House was a home in Wales that was designed to look like a hobbit house from the Lord of the Rings movies. The owner, Simon Dale, built the house himself with the help of family and friends. The house became a popular tourist destination and was featured on TV and in magazines. Dale eventually had to sell the house due to financial problems. The new owner demolished the house and built a new home on the property.
4- Nautilus House, Mexico
This house was designed by Arquitectura Orgânica. Its design was inspired by molluscs, shells and aquatic life. Its shape of a spiral shell is present both outside and inside.
It has the rooms of a normal house: bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The difference is that there are no internal partitions between these rooms, they are all connected by a spiral staircase.
5- Crooked House, Poland
Casa Torta was designed by the architecture firm Szotynscy & Zaleski and looks like it came out of a surrealist painting. And it was. The house was inspired by a work by the Polish illustrator Jan Marcin Szancer. When we look at the house, we have the impression that its structure is “falling apart.” The crooked house has 4,000 square meters, and today it works as a shopping center.
6-Biomorphic House, Israel
This futuristic, free-form structure house was designed by architect Pavie. It is located in Israel and was built on land almost a thousand meters above the sea, with an incredible view and curved shapes that are more like sunglasses above the sea.
7- Vermont Earth Home, Vermont, United States
Award-winning architect, Bob Chappelle designed and hand-built the one-of-a-kind Vermont Earth Home from polystyrene, coated with mud and cement. The oval windows looking out into the wooded surroundings are designed to require no frames and are built directly into the walls. Truly a work of art, Chappelle hand-built the cherry-slab furniture. Granite columns blend beautifully with the artistic design and keep the living space open and intriguing.
8- Transparent House, Japan
This house was built in 2012 for a family that certainly didn’t want privacy, in a residential area of Tokyo. The Japanese architecture office Sou Fujimoto was responsible for this very peculiar project, and the materials used for the construction of this residence were glass and metal. Its advantage is that it offers natural light, but isn’t it uncomfortable that everyone can see what’s going on inside?
9- Flintstones House, USA
From the 23-acre property, full of glass windows, you can comfortably enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean, the Boney Mountains, Channel Islands, Serrano Valley and also Los Angeles. The location is minutes from the beach, has a stocked wine cellar, and the living and dining rooms have vaulted ceilings that open to the sky. Surprisingly, there are only two bathrooms and one bedroom in the mansion, nothing a little tugging can’t fix.
10- Le Palais Bulles , France
Designed between 1975 and 1989 by architect Antti Lovag, the building is known as the “bubble palace” and is located in France. The architectural complex has swimming pools, gardens, an amphitheater and 28 terracotta spheres. The place is much sought after by high society for parties, fashion shows and dances.
